Up to five binoculars can be provided.
You big “tickers” are welcome also! Need a west coast species for your life list?
My eBird (http://ebird.org) count for this yard stands at 79 species since March of 2013.
“Be sure to click on Notes of a Naturalist and read my essays, with lots of photos, on the natural history of this area. There are many interesting essays on birds, and other things that I hope you enjoy!”~ Bruce
The standard bird walk and/or nature tour is a non-strenuous field trip lasting up to five hours. There will be driving to the local hot spots. The format of these field trips is geared for adults. Participant ages teen to adult are welcome.
Bird watching trips should start between 7 and 8 am, remember birds are out early. Nature tours can start at any time. Contact Bruce for rates and availability.
Hi Bruce,
My girlfriend Mikka and I did a bird walk with you last summer. I’m wondering if you’re available Tuesday May 23 for another. Do you think the birds will be much different from the last time?
Thanks
Hi Mark,
Thanks for the repeat business. This time of year we have lots of nestlings and fledgelings around, with the Bald eagles, Great horned owls, Western bluebirds, Cal. towhees and others in abundance this spring. That will be a big difference from summer.

I am an avid amateur bird-watcher for many years who has birded in many places in the world, but never in the Ojai area. I’ll be in Ojai for 2 days in the middle of December. I’m arriving late on Sat Dec 16. I would love to go on a birding trip with you on Sunday morning Dec 17. I will be staying in Ojai and have a car.
Hello Elaine,
Thank you so much for your interest. I do have December 17 open so I will pencil you in for that day. Here is my e-mail address, backwoodsbruce1@yahoo.com, and phone, 805-646-1676. We can connect as the date draws nearer. Thanks again for your interest and I look forward to showing you our beautiful Ojai Valley!

Hi,
I would like to join a bird walk the week of December 24th with my two sons, aged 9 and 11.
I noticed you said adults and teens are welcome. Would you be able to accommodate my two sons?
Hi Michelle,
Thank you for your interest in a bird walk. The reason I state “teens through adult” are twofold; Younger children have problems using binoculars adequately and can’t find the bird with them and get bored, second, the pace of bird watching is slow. It’s a little walking and a lot of looking which also can bore them. However, if your children are already interested in birding, having already tried it or not, it could work out for them. Children can be good birders, if they have the interest in doing so. If they are very interested in bird watching I would be honored to help them on their journey. I will try to attach a copy of my brochure to this e-mail although i might have to send it in a subsequent e-mail. You can call me at 805-646-1676 and we can discuss their interest. I look forward to hearing from you!
